This site located directly adjacent Sumner Beach, a popular seaside location for Christchurch residence to live had a very tired two story home that had numerous unsympathetic alterations undertaken in its lifetime. The owners approached Architecture Studio to transform the home to a modern standard without knocking the total building over and starting again. With outstanding views over the sea it was important to capture as much as possible and well as provide protection from the dominant easterly winds. The Owner is a keen surfer and enjoys the outdoors so it was important to design the building maintenance free with special attention to coastal corrosion regulations.
